Welcome to mazingira green
Mazingira is a Swahili word meaning environment whereas Green in our perspective depicts stability and cleanliness. Therefore, Mazingira Green is an environmental blog and we focus on four thematic areas of interest and expertise, which are; Global Warming, Climate Change, Green Energy and Green Living.
Brought together by the love for a green and clean environment, though from different professions, we, Ben [Justice & Peace] and Paul [ICT], thought of how we can use our different professional knowledge to promote, restore, conserve, and preserve the environmental integrity.
Our Thematic Areas
1. Global Warming
Have you been wondering and asking yourself what this infamous term global warming is all about?
Or perhaps, in the course of your daily life, you have been hearing about it on television, radio stations, social media, newspapers or from various environmental scientists but you don’t know what it entails? If yes, worry no more because you are in the right place.
2. Climate Change
In simpler terms, climate change is the change of climatic patterns and its already established systems. However, climate change is more than just that simple definition.
This is because, climate change involves extreme change of events and patterns, either a place becoming too hot or too cold thus affecting human life, fauna and flora.
3. Green Energy
When we say green energy, what do we really mean? You might be asking yourself if energy has colour for it to be named green.
No, energy has no colour and it is not even tangible. No one can create energy since it is naturally present [energy is a natural resource] though in different forms.
4. Green Living
Green living is the psychological and practical way of living whereby one makes conscious decisions to only use renewable resources where possible.
For example; using solar energy to power your house, traveling in an electric car, using recyclable materials such as ciondos [Kikuyu word] when doing your shopping.

Our Projects
1. Tree Nursery
This programme involves raising and distributing 5,000 tree seedlings in primary schools and establishing participatory trials.
Our project also aims at raising an estimated seedlings of more than 10,000 indegenous trees to restore the degraded Aberdare and Mt. Kenya forests ecosystems [major water catchment areas in Kenya] due to illegal logging, charcoal burning, and encroachment.
2. Cleanup Exercises
We organise Cleanup Days in various shopping centers, markets and towns in Kenya as we advocate for a clean environment and promoting sustainable public sanitation.
Many people and various leaders have volunteered, graced and joined our cleanup events. We urge all Kenyans to promote and participate in community action and activities that ensures a clean environment.
3. Environmental Stewardship
In this programme, we are working with primary schools and community members to instill Tree Care Tips and Techniques, a fundamental part of creating a future generation of environmental stewards.
We aim to launch this Programme and implement it from 2022 onwards, growing from a pilot of 12 schools, to over 1000 primary and secondary schools across Kenya.
